Rosarian Sisters Open Elderly Sisters Home to Provide Care and Support

Sisters of the Holy Rosary, Mountrosa, Malawi – The Rosarian Sisters, a Catholic congregation, have opened an Elderly Sisters Home at Mountrosa to provide care and support for elderly and sick sisters who have dedicated their lives to serving the Church and society for over 50 years as religious.

The home, which is located in a tranquil and serene environment, will provide a comfortable and safe living space for the elderly sisters, who may require special care and attention. The facility includes a chapel, where the sisters can attend mass, do their prayer, praying for the needs of the church and society and receive spiritual support.

According to Sister Devota Gama, the home’s administrator, the Rosarian Sisters recognize the tremendous contribution that elderly sisters have made to the Church and society, and it is only fitting that they receive the care and support they need in their old age. “These sisters have given so much of themselves to others throughout their lives, and it is our duty to ensure that they receive the care and support they deserve in their old age. We are committed to providing a home where they can live with dignity, respect, and comfort.”

The opening of the Elderly Sisters Home is part of the Rosarian Sisters’ broader commitment to caring for the elderly and vulnerable in the community. The home will serve as a beacon of hope and a symbol of the sisters’ dedication to serving others, even in their old age.

“We believe that the elderly have a lot to contribute to society, and we are committed to ensuring that they receive the care and support they need to live fulfilling lives,” says Sister Mariarosa Phiri. “Our hope is that the Elderly Sisters Home will be a place where the sisters can continue to be active members of the community, even in their old age through prayer.”

The opening of the Elderly Sisters Home has been warmly welcomed by the local community, who see it as a testament to the Rosarian Sisters’ commitment to caring for the elderly and vulnerable. The home is expected to provide a much-needed source of care and support for elderly and sick sisters in the region, ensuring that they receive the dignity, respect, and comfort they deserve in their old age.

St. Marcels Hospital Chigwere

Chigwere Hospital, Constructed by Rosarian Sisters, to Serve 20,000 Population

Chigwere in Nkhatabay, Malawi – The Rosarian Sisters, a Catholic congregation, are constructing a hospital in Chigwere, a village located 20 kilometers from Mzuzu city. The hospital is expected to serve a population of 20,000 people, with a special focus on pregnant women and children who have to travel long distances to receive medical attention.

The hospital will feature a maternity ward that can accommodate up to 20 women, an outpatient department, and a children’s room that can house around 10 children. It will also have observation rooms for males and females that can each accommodate up to five people.

The construction of the hospital has been made possible through the help of various individuals and organizations. The Italian Bishops have provided support for the building of the hospital, while Mr. and Mrs. Nyirenda and their family have helped with the finishing touches such as painting, flooring, and the installation of solar and water systems. The congregation and Africa Directo have also supported the hospital’s construction by providing guardian shelter, toilets, kitchen, and laundry facilities.

The hospital is expected to be a lifeline for the community, providing critical medical care to pregnant women and children. The long distances to Mzuzu city and other medical facilities have often resulted in delayed medical attention, which can have dire consequences for the health of the patients.

According to Sister Theresa Msukwa councilor for health, the Chigwere Hospital is a welcome addition to the area. “We are excited to bring this hospital to Chigwere, and we hope that it will make a positive difference in the lives of the people we serve. We are grateful for the support we have received from our partners, and we look forward to working with them to improve the health and well-being of our community.”

The Chigwere Hospital is expected to open its doors in the coming months, providing a much-needed source of medical care to the community.

Rosarian Sisters Invest in Sustainable Agriculture with Chigwere Farm

Chigwere, Malawi – The Rosarian Sisters, a Catholic congregation, have expanded their presence in Chigwere by investing in sustainable agriculture with Chigwere Farm. The farm is located 20 kilometers from Mzuzu city, where the sisters are constructing a hospital to serve the local community.

The Chigwere Farm, which covers an area of 10 hectares, will be used to grow crops such as maize, soybeans, and groundnuts, as well as rear livestock such as goats, pigs, and chickens. The farm will also utilize sustainable farming techniques, such as crop rotation, composting, and intercropping, to improve soil health and promote long-term sustainability.

According to Sister Flora Mashonga, the farm’s manager, the Rosarian Sisters see agriculture as a vital component of sustainable development in the region. “We believe that sustainable agriculture is key to improving food security, reducing poverty, and promoting environmental sustainability. Our goal is to create a model farm that can serve as an example for other farmers in the area.”

The farm will also serve as a training center, where local farmers can learn about sustainable farming practices and techniques. The Rosarian Sisters will work with local agricultural organizations and universities to develop training programs and provide support to farmers in the region.

The Chigwere Farm is just one example of the Rosarian Sisters’ commitment to sustainable development in the region. The construction of the Chigwere Hospital, located nearby, is another example of their efforts to improve the health and well-being of the local community.

“We see health and agriculture as two sides of the same coin,” says Sister Mariarosa Phiri. “Both are critical to sustainable development, and we believe that by investing in both, we can make a real difference in the lives of the people we serve.”

The Rosarian Sisters’ investment in sustainable agriculture is a welcome development in the region, where many farmers struggle to make a living and food insecurity remains a major challenge. With the Chigwere Farm and the Chigwere Hospital, the sisters are demonstrating their commitment to creating a more sustainable and prosperous future for the people of Chigwere and beyond.
