A joyful and memorable celebration took place on 20th May 2026 at Katete Girls Primary School as the school officially blessed its newly constructed girls’ hostel. The event marked an important milestone in the growth and development of the institution, which in under the leadership and care of the Sisters of the Holy Rosary.

The School, headed by Sr. Suzanne Mwasangwale, accommodates both boarding and day scholars and continues to provide quality education and holistic formation to girls. The newly constructed hostel, named St. Catherine of Siena Hostel, is an additional hostel to the already existing hostels at school. It is expected to improve the learning environment by providing safe and comfortable accommodation for learners.

The dream of constructing the hostel began when the Late Sr. Elizabeth Sezi, together with Mr. Nkhambule, the deputy teacher, realized that the girls did not have enough accommodation. Concerned about the welfare and education of the learners, they worked together to prepare and submit a proposal to Manos Unidas requesting support for the project.
Fortunately, the proposal was accepted, bringing hope and joy to the school community. Construction of the hostel started taking shape in 2023, and today the beautiful structure stands complete and ready to accommodate 80 girls. The hostel is expected to greatly benefit the learners by reducing accommodation challenges and creating a more conducive atmosphere for study , discipline and personal growth.
Despite financial challenges encountered during the project, the Sisters of the Holy Rosary Congregation generously took responsibility for completing the finishing works after the initial funds became insufficient. Their commitment and sacrifice demonstrated their dedication to the education and wellbeing of young girls.

The blessing ceremony was conducted by Fr. Samuel Ngoma, the Parish Priest of St. Teresa Parish ( Katete).Through prayers and blessings, he dedicated the new hostel to God and asked for continued protection, wisdom and success for all the girls who will live and study there. The cerebration was filled with gratitude, joy, and thanksgiving to God for the successful completion of the hostel. Teachers, learners, Sisters, Parents and invited guests gathered together to witness this important occasion and celebrate a project that will positively impact many generations of girls at katete Girls Primary School.

The new hostel stands as a sign of hope, unity and commitment to girls’ education. It also reflects the mission of the Sisters of the Holy Rosary in promoting quality education, dignity and empowerment of young women through compassionate service.

Special thanks and sincere appreciation go to Manos Unidas, the donor who generously supported the construction of St. Catherine of Siena Hostel. Through their financial assistance and commitment to education, the dream of providing safe and comfortable accommodation for girls has become a reality. Their support will positively impact the lives of many learners for generations to come by promoting access to quality education and a conducive learning environment.
