15th ACWECA General Assembly
The superior general of The Sisters of the Holy Rosary, Mzuzu Diocese, Sr. Mariarosa Phiri was one those that attended the 15th General Assembly of the Association of Consecrated Women of Eastern and Central Africa in Kampala, Uganda at the Pope Paul VI Memorial hotel from the 16th to 26th August 2011.
The association had 8 member states namely; Kenya, Uganda, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi and Sudan. However, following the split of Sudan into North and South the number of membership has increased from 8 to 9.
The Theme of the meeting was: “Called to an Identity of Rootedness in the person of Jesus Christ as consecrated Women, A Challenge for Mission and Formation” There were about 120 Sisters in attendance; amongst them were, mother generals, provincial superiors and Regional superiors and observers.
The opening mass was conducted by his Grace Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, archbishop of Kampala and others who concelebrated with him. The closing mass was graced by his Excellency the Nuncio Tschang In Nam of Uganda concelebrated with his Grace Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga and others.
It was a very enriching gathering where participants shared joy, sorrow and various experiences. Reports from different countries through the national association indicated success. We looked at a number of issues which would help us to be rooted in Jesus Christ. All in all, the meeting was a success.
